When everything seems impossible, the people make it possible

Report on the situation in Turkey and the struggle of communists in solidarity to the people

 The first days after the devastating earthquake have left behind tens of thousands of dead and millions affected in Turkey and Syria. The affected areas have been almost completely destroyed, with hundreds of thousands having lost their homes, while weather conditions are becoming increasingly harsh. At the same time, the Turkish state apparatus is unable to provide any real assistance, while Erdoğan is trying to appear as the "savior" of the people and to reap political benefits ahead of the elections in Turkey. The truth is far from that. According to information entire areas (such as Hatay province) have been abandoned without help, while at the same time the authorities do not hesitate to threaten and prevent people in solidarity and those who protest. Moreover, the Turkish government restricted access to Twitter, a tool that was even a lifesaver for those affected who, were trying to communicate and seek rescue under the wreckage.

From the first moment of the great disaster, the communists, the left-wing and communist parties, the trade unions, have organized themselves to help those affected. They organized Disaster Control recording centers, search and rescue teams which arrived in the areas hit by the earthquakes from all over the country. They organized the collection and distribution of basic necessities to the earthquake victims. Once again it is clear that only the people can save the people, and not the bourgeois state and the capital, which in fact bears serious responsibility for the terrible consequences of the earthquake (for example the construction companies that build flimsy buildings while speculating in cooperation with the regime)

We would like to especially underline the contribution of our comrades, from the parties of EMEP and TIP, who from the first moment have contributed decisively in aid of the earthquake victims, despite the efforts of prevention by the Erdoğan regime. We are sending our deepest condolences to both parties for the loss of comrades and their beloved ones in the devastating earthquake. We are proud that as NAR and NKA we have built comradeship and fraternal relationships with them. The struggle they are fighting at the moment, as well as the struggle being waged by all the communists in Turkey, to stand by the suffering people and the working class, is historic.

For our part, we once again declare our readiness to contribute in every way supporting the peoples of Turkey and Syria. We have already announced financial assistance to those affected, while at the same time we are participating in the collection of basic necessities in unions and associations. The financial support will reach those who really need it, in cooperation with left-wing parties and workers' organizations without the mediation of the Turkish state.
