NAR: On the side of the Palestinian people in its struggle for freedom and justice

NAR for Communist Liberation on the side of the Palestinian people in its struggle for freedom and justice

May 15th, marks the 74th anniversary of the Palestinian Nakba (catastrophe). During the Nakba, between 750,000 and 1,000,000 Palestinians were driven out of their homes and ethnically cleansed.

This year’s anniversary coincides with the assassination of Shireen Abu Akleh, the Palestinian journalist killed by Israeli forces  in the occupied city of Jenin. This murder is part of a consistent pattern of Israeli violent attacks against journalists revealing to the world the brutalities of its 74-year-old regime of occupation, settler-colonialism and apartheid. It is also an attempt to install fear among all Palestinians struggling for freedom, justice and equality. But Shireen’s murder inspired courage and commitment to tens of thousands of Palestinians participating in her funeral procession across the occupied Palestinian territory, in defiance of Israel’s violent attempt to prevent them.  Shireen’s blood is also on the hands of the West (primarily the US, UK and EU) and Arab states governments as they are continuing their complicity and support for Israel’s military occupation.

On the 74th anniversary of the Nakba, Israel’s impunity, sponsored by the West , directly contributes to Palestinian’s ongoing Nakba. Apartheid Israel’s colonial violence and aggression have never stopped since 1948. During the Nakba, 530 Palestinian towns and villages were destroyed to prevent exiled Palestinian refugees from returning. Many homes that remained standing were repopulated with Jewish-Israeli colonial settlers. Israel’s brutality towards Palestinians has been ongoing for over 74 years, 8 million Palestinian refugees are denied their right to return to their homes and lands.  Palestinians remained inside what became Israel's borders in 1948 were granted Israeli citizenship but lived for years under military rule. To this day, Palestinian citizens of Israel live as second-class citizens in their own homeland, subjected to racist laws that discriminate against them.

The Nakba did not end in 1948 but continues to this day in the form of apartheid Israel’s ongoing theft of Palestinian land for Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territory as well as destruction of Palestinian homes, deportations, forced displacement and military assaults.

NAR for Communist Liberations supports and calls for global mobilization in solidarity with the Palestinian people in their resistance against Israel’s apartheid state.  Palestinian women, men and youth continue to rise up for their rights, whether in their homeland or in exile. We salute the uprisings in the Palestinian towns and all popular and international  solidarity movements in order to establish a liberated  state in Palestine, guaranteeing the refugees' right to return.

Long live the Palestinian resistance, long live the struggles and internationalist solidarity.
